DIY Holiday Nails

I think I have already gone over the fact that I am the worst nail painter ever. I think that has already been established, but if not… I AM THE WORST NAIL PAINTER/NAIL ARTIST/NAIL ANYTHING EVER. If I had to paint my nails in order to save my life, I would be a goner.

I just can’t paint my nails well at all. Or do fancy designs.

So, when you have a problem, you find a solution. My solution came in the form of my aunt taking my to this cute little nail salon five minutes from my house. My aunt is the real MVP. Shoutout to her.

So, I went to get my nails done and wanted to get a holiday themed nail design so that I could easily make a DIY for all of you (because who doesn’t love a good DIY).

I went with a simple two color design. Every finger except my ring finger is one color here’s the colors I used:

On four of my five fingers, I have OPI’s Coca Cola Red ($8.50) which is a beautiful bright red color (think of the color of a Coke can). I love the name and the brightness of the red. It is beautiful!

On my ring ringer, I have a OPI’s Classic ($8.50) which is a gold/beige colored shimmery polish. It scream holidays to me (anything glittery reminds me of the holidays!).

I love this look because it is super simple and easy to pull off. You don’t even need any extra tools or anything. Just two nail polishes!

Everyday Makeup Routine

Okay, I have to be honest with you. I don’t wear a full face of makeup everyday. Quite frankly, I only wear a full face of makeup for special occasions (or if I am just feeling like it… which is rare). (My definition of a full face is concealer, foundation, etc.) I just like the feeling of wearing minimal makeup and letting my skin breathe. But, that’s just me.

And I like to wear a minimal makeup look everyday to school. I just think that it suits me. And here is how I achieve it!

I basically go with the Brows, Lashes, Lips motto. I feel like the perfect minimal makeup look only really needs three things: good eyebrows, good mascara, and a good lippie. That is all I need to look effortlessly flawless.

BROWS: I haven’t branched out into the brow pencil world quite just yet. I am a tried and true powder/eyeshadow brow filler through and through. I just think that powder brow products are really awesome and give a nice natural look to the eyebrows. So, currently, I have been using the shade Undone from the Naked Basics 2 Palette ($29). This shade is perfect for my brows. This Naked Basics Palette is great if you are looking for a brow powder shade and eyeshadows all in one palette. A few of the shades in this palette are great for brow powders while all of them are amazing eyeshadows on their own. This is a great palette to have for those who like to make multitasking products.

LASHES: I love a good drugstore mascara. I personally think that the drugstore has so many awesome mascara options (that are also very inexpensive). The Maybelline Lash Sensational ($8.99) has been my current favorite because it is relatively inexpensive, it makes your lashes super long, and it just stays on all day (and lasts through basically everything).

LIPS: My lip product selection for school is filled with nudes, pinks, pinky nudes, and more nudes. I like to keep it pretty simple on the lips and I also want a product that I can reapply throughout the day as needed. So, I love wearing a gloss to school. My personal favorite at the moment is the Sephora Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Baby Doll ($14) mainly because it is a nice light pink that is great for everyday wear.

Current Favorite Red Lip Products

I have only recently really gotten into red lip products. I used to have a deep and immense fear of red lippies because I always thought of them as too bright and too bold for me. I was so used to my regular old nudes and pinks that I was afraid to branch out and try other lippies.

But, then I got the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella and everything changed. After one swipe, I knew I had to go out and get more red lippies.

So, I did. And here they are.

{From top to bottom: L’Oreal Color Riche Lipliner in Always Red ($5.99), Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella ($26),  Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Always Red ($14), and Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer in Fire Opal ($8.99).}

Okay, in my current red lip favorites, I have a lipliner, a matte lip pencil, a lip stain, and a lip gloss. So, I have a little bit of everything. Let’s roll!

L’Oreal Lipliner: Honestly, I bought this on a whim because I have been meaning to get a lip liner to go with my new red lippies. It isn’t a bad liner at all. It doesn’t feather and it does last a good amount of time. It does have a weird smell (I don’t know how to describe it other than “bad”) and the tip is a little fragile so it breaks really easily if you twist it up too much when you apply it. Other than that, it is a good (not super duper duper great) lip liner for the price. Would recommend if you need a inexpensive liner.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil: I have talked a little about this in my Sephora Birthday Gift blog post, so I will make this short. It has a great feel on the lips, great pigmentation, and is just a great lip pencil. It is easy to apply and is a beautiful red that will fit basically every skin tone. I love it!

Sephora Cream Lip Stain: I feel like I have been talking about these a lot. I have been obsessed with them for at least a year and a half and only recently have been talking about them in multiple blog posts in a row (I promise I will stop mentioning it until my 2015 yearly favorites). The red Sephora cream lip stain is just as good as my Infinite Rose one. Great pigmentation, smell, wear time, everything. Those lip stains are good stuff.

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer: I am just going out there and saying that the few Ultra HD products I have tried from Revlon are great. I bought the color Fire Opal in hope that it was a nice true red that could easily be plopped over my matte red lip products if I ever wanted to have a glossy look. To my dismay, this is more of a orange toned red that isn’t really something I would wear. But, I am definitely going to make it work (and I will definitely pick up the Carnelian shade which is a true red). Other than the color fail I made, the formula is awesome. The applicator is a little brush which I find cool and great to apply it with because it just applies it really nicely. It isn’t too sticky or annoying (like some lip glosses) but still gives a nice shine. I really like it.

And those are my favorite red lip products of the moment. I have really been loving red lippies and hope that you give some of these a try because they are fantastic products!

Product Comparison: Sephora Cream Lip Stain & Revlon Ultra HD Lipcolor

I feel like you guys should have seen this blog post coming. I sorta eluded to it in my main blog post about the Revlon Lipcolor, but I feel like I needed to go into more detail.

So, here I am. I am going to basically do a full comparison of the two for you guys. I feel like you deserve it.

OKAY. Let’s get started:

(The top swatch is the Sephora Cream Lip Stain and the bottom swatch is the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor.)

The first similarity is that they are relatively inexpensive. The Sephora cream lip stain is one of the cheaper products at Sephora and is only $5 more than the Revlon lipcolor (which isn’t much considering that I am comparing a drugstore product to a high end product). They are also similar because they are “liquid lipsitck-esque” products. They are both some form of liquid lipstick. They both last a good amount of time on the lips and both have intense pigmentation. They both also have really sweet scents. The Sephora lip stain has a vanilla buttercream scent to it while the Revlon lipcolor sorta smells like strawberries.

But, that is where I draw the line on the similarities. They have a handful of differences, but not any bad ones. The Revlon lipcolor has a more balmy feeling (like I mentioned in my other blog post) while the Sephora lip stain has a more matte feeling. The Sephora lip stain is more rose toned and shimmery while the Revlon lipcolor is a more pinky rose color. They are kinda in the same family though. The Sephora lip stain feels more weightless on the lips while the Revlon lipcolor is more moisturizing and feels a little heavier than the Sephora one.

Other than that, these lippies are relatively the same. I love both colors and think they are both wearable on an everyday basis. Either is a great option to pick up!

What are your favorite comparable lip products? Which do you like better? What are your favorite lippies of the moment? (Leave any comments down below!)

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor

If you have been a follower of my blog for a while, then you would already know that I’m a hardcore lippie addict. I have so many lippies that I have lost track of how many I actually have. My collection of lip products is getting out of hand.

And the drugstore just keeps feeding my lippie addiction. I can’t just not walk by a new Revlon display and not but the new matte lip colors they have. That would be uncharacteristic.

So, I caved and bought the new Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor ($8.99) in Devotion.

I would say that this isn’t a fully matte lippie. It has a creamy feeling but it kinda looks matte. So, I would classify this as a creamy matte lip color. It isn’t transfer proof (it isn’t kiss proof either…) because it is so creamy. But, it is a great lip color to apply in a hurry because it isn’t shimmery at all and just has really awesome pigmentation.

I would classify this lipcolor as a satin liquid lipstick. I would compare this to the Sephora cream lip stain, except for the fact that this Revlon lipcolor has a nicer and more balmy feel while the Sephora lip stain is more on the fully matte side. The Revlon lipcolors feel amazing on the lips and have a really nice sweet smell (smells like strawberries to me). Also, another perk is that it isn’t tacky or sticky. I can’t stand tacky and sticky lip products, so I am super glad that this one isn’t.

It is also the perfect shade for me. It is a really nice pink rose shade (like the Sephora cream lip stain in Infinite Rose without the shimmer). It is super wearable, so I can wear it to school (I totally will wear it for four months in a row because I get attached to lippies easily and I really wear the heck out of lip products when I am at school).

And here is a little selfie I took before my Christmas party. Everyone at the party loved the lip color and asked where it is from.

There are eight shades in the collection and I might actually pick up the red shade in the future (I have been getting into red lippies recently. Leave your favorites down below). So, overall, I love these lippies and would definitely recommend them to anyone that is looking for a good everyday lipcolor.

Have you tried other shades? Which one is your favorite? What lippies are you loving right now?

Sephora Color Wishes Set

Okay, I have to admit again that I really really really shouldn’t have bought this… That stinking checkout area with all of the little trinkets just sucks you in. My sister saw this and thought that I “had to have it” because I love eyeshadow and they are so stinking cute.

My sister just gets me to fall in love with makeup very easily. That is why we always go to Sephora together. (#MyWalletIsCryingWhenSheIsAround)

But, I am really glad I bought this because it is the perfect holiday gift or stocking stuffer. It was MADE for the holidays (literally). This Sephora Color Wishes set ($10) was made for you, guys.

This set is the perfect stocking stuffer because it comes with five small sized eyeshadow books. There are 5 different books that all have different eyeshadow duos. Each duo comes with a matte and shimmery shade. The duos range from simple and shimmery to dark and daring. I love the range of shadows in this set because there are some darker colors, lighter colors, matte, and shimmery colors.

Let’s check out each little book:

The Be A Celebrity book is a more neutral duo. The matte shade is a beautiful light brown and the shimmery shade is a brownish color with little gold sparkles. This duo is awesome for your friend/family member that loves neutral colors.

The Be A Role Model is my favorite book of the set. It has a matte pink/dusty rose/mauve colored shadow (THAT I AM IN LOVE WITH) and a really pretty mauve/pink shimmery shade with little gold flecks in it. This duo is perfect for your friend that is obsessed with the Naked 3 palette or rose gold eyeshadows.

The Be A Queen is one of the more darker palettes. But these colors totally compliment each other really well. The matte shade is a nice plum-y purple color and the shimmery shade is a simple silver shimmer. The purple and silver look stunning together! This duo is great for your friend that loves darker eyeshadows (or is a Queen!).

The Be A Hero book has the other darker shade. The matte shade is a cream color that is great for everyday wear (it is a great base for every eye makeup look) and a beautiful dark purple shade that has some beautiful flecks of shimmer in it. The shimmery shade is this one is amazing and looks like the night sky (in my opinion) in the book. This is the perfect duo for your outgoing friend.

The Be A Rockstar duo has a cream colored matte shade and a rally cool deep brown shimmery shade. This is another neutral duo that can be worn everyday and it absolutely breathtaking. I love the matte color because it can be used as a base for a ton of different eye looks. This is perfect for your sophisticated friend that also likes a little bit of glitter.

Overall, the pigmentation on these were surprising. They had really nice pigmentation and went on really smooth. For a Sephora eyeshadow, I was surprised. I really liked these eyeshadows and would totally recommend them to you if you are looking for a gift idea!

Have you tried these out? What do you think? What other holiday items from Sephora would you like to see?
